SWIN Survey 2025
Results are in! Here’s what you told us about your Swinburne student experience.
In April, we invited you to provide confidential feedback on your Swinburne student experience, through our pilot Student Wellbeing, Insights and eNgagement (SWIN) Survey 2025.
Check out the survey results below, along with actions we’re taking to shape the future of Swinburne, in areas you told us matter most.
SWIN Survey 2025 results at a glance
Who participated?
A total of 2,102 students completed our pilot SWIN Survey 2025, reflecting a 7% response rate. This means the results may not be representative of all students’ experiences.
Of those students who responded:
- Most were domestic students (76%), studying full-time (86%), and aged under 20 years (34%).
- Most respondents were undergraduate students (54%), with fewer postgraduate (14%) and VET (32%) students taking part.
- Close to half were continuing their studies at Swinburne (52%), versus commencing (48%).
Where we can improve
Survey respondents told us how we can better support students – whether that’s through personalised careers support, help to navigate life after study, or finding quick answers to critical questions about enrolment, exams and more.
Find out how we’re taking action to make sure more students know about the support services Swinburne offers, and leave satisfied with the support services we provide.

While nearly 80% of survey respondents found our StudentHQ and Enrolment specialists helpful when they used our services, one third said they weren't feeling as supported at Swinburne as they could be – and four in ten respondents said they weren’t always comfortable approaching staff for help.
You also told us you need support with work-life balance – for example, students working more hours reported difficulty completing academic tasks.
What we’re doing:
- Offering extra assistance to students who need it most, with our Student HQ and Student Support teams reaching out proactively to students who may need academic or other support to make the most of their studies, early in Semester 2 2025.
- Rolling out revised training for our StudentHQ staff, and tracking the impact to make sure improvement happens.
- Engaging a benchmarking service to review our service standards and provide suggestions for how we can further enhance them.

- Survey respondents said they often struggled with timetabling and being able to attend all classes. Students like you told us that being able to self-build your timetable is vital, so you can organise study around your work commitments and other clashes.
What we're doing:
- Developing new timetabling principles, to enable more student-led timetabling.

Only 57% of survey respondents found our Ask George website helpful.
What we're doing:
- Creating more comprehensive FAQs for commonly searched student queries, to make Ask George a reliable, go-to source of information for you.
- Working with a student focus group to review current content and make sure the new content is accessible, relevant and up to date.

Nearly a third (27%) of students who responded to SWIN Survey 2025 have never used Swinburne’s careers and employability support. Yet research shows that students who take action towards developing their careers while they're enrolled are more confident when they graduate and have much better career outcomes than those who don't.
What we're doing:
- Providing a new Careers Launchpad space at our Hawthorn campus (ground floor, SPS Building), where you can access personalised careers and employability support, attend a career consultation, hone your resume, learn about professional placements and internships and scope jobs for while you study, or when you graduate! Drop in between 9am and 5pm Mon-Fri to chat with an Employability Peer Assistant or qualified Careers Consultant, or connect online through the Vygo app.
- Offering the Swinburne Employability Award, which celebrates your experiences beyond the classroom, helping you showcase your skills to employers and stand out in a competitive job market. By completing the award, you’ll learn more about yourselves and your career capabilities, discover new opportunities, and develop skills to manage your career.

About half of final semester undergraduate students who responded haven’t started taking action on getting their first jobs after graduation. What’s more, some of you told us you’re worried about the transition to work and life after study, and you could use some tips from someone who's been there recently.
We’re putting extra focus on helping you transition from university into a professional workplace, helping you access support as you navigate life after study.
What we're doing:
- Inviting final year students who’ve completed their studies, but haven’t yet found employment, to attend our Graduate Employment Series each November. The event offers: career workshops on topics like job search techniques, job applications and interviews; job application reviews by careers professionals; mock interviews; and networking with recruiters.
- Providing the ‘Ask A Grad’ peer mentoring program to final year students through the Vygo app. Through Ask A Grad, final year students can ask questions of recent graduates to support navigating their life after studies.
- Offering industry and alumni mentoring programs to STEM students, including a tailored group mentoring program for School of Science, Computing and Emerging Technologies and School of Engineering students in their final year.
