- Over the years I've had the privilege
0:03
of taking students all over the world.
0:05
There's a point on every program where they get it.
0:09
They get this idea that they're global citizens.
0:13
- I was in New York for about three and a bit months,
0:16
and it fundamentally changed the way that I saw my future.
0:20
University degrees teach you about something.
0:22
I think Swinburne abroad programs teach you about yourself,
0:26
and more so when you travel,
0:27
and you see the world, you get a better understanding
0:30
of what's out there,
0:31
and you get a sense of who you are in that world.
0:35
- I went to Finland to study materials,
0:38
material technology in the hope
0:39
that I would find my way into the car industry,
0:41
and that didn't end up working.
0:43
But the skills I learned from the units in Finland,
0:46
those courses were directly relevant
0:48
to the business I started.
0:54
- I'm currently in Germany,
0:55
about to start a 12-month placement here
0:57
in Munich for engineering.
0:58
Just before this,
0:59
I was also in Spain on a six-week overseas internship.
1:03
and a few years ago, I also did a study tour over in India.
1:06
These opportunities have definitely helped me grow
1:09
as a person.
1:10
- I think I gained a lot of resilience.
1:14
When you get through that, and you've done it by yourself,
1:17
that is what contributes to that self-confidence.
1:21
- I wanted to have a really unique university experience
1:24
living on campus, exploring a new city,
1:27
and that was something that I really wanted
1:29
to do was essentially just have fun,
1:31
and I got exactly that
1:33
when I did my overseas exchange to Ohio.
1:37
- They are not just working on something that's light.
1:41
These are real projects that they get to contribute.
1:46
- We built an emergency vehicle for South Korean streets,
1:49
'cause they're really tight.
1:50
It was due 8:00 AM in the morning
1:52
and we had curfew at 1:00 AM,
1:53
so there's a video of us at I think 11:30
1:56
to 12:00 AM just putting all the panels on the car,
2:00
finishing it off,
2:01
and we had like some house techno music blasting,
2:03
seeing like what we've been building
2:05
for two weeks come together.
2:06
That was probably the best memory I have.
2:11
- We actually went on a trip to the Finnish Lapland,
2:16
and that was insane,
2:17
like the definition of Winter Wonderland.
2:20
- Northern lights, the whole thing,
2:21
stayed in a finished wood cabin
2:23
with a bunch of people you meet over there.
2:26
It was the best decision I possibly have ever made.

There are so many possibilities!
We have over 60+ partner universities for our overseas exchange programs. And our study tours and internships run programs in major cities across the globe—think Berlin, Dublin, Mexico, Seoul, Tokyo, New York and more.
If you feel overwhelmed, we can help you narrow down the best places to consider based on your study area, as some programs are better suited for certain degrees.
The application process and deadline is slightly different for each program.
Generally you'll attend or watch an information session first, to find out if the program is right for you.
Swinburne Abroad will then guide you through the application process for your chosen program.
We get it, life is expensive right now. But we don't want that to stop you from experiencing overseas study.
There are a number of funding opportunities available for eligible students. You can find out more about the OS-HELP Loan, travel grants and government funding on our fee help and funding page.
Settling back in can sometimes be tricky, so Swinburne Abroad provides a Return Home session or catch up/check in after your program is finished.
We'll help sort out the academic credit process and provide you with tips on how you can use your overseas experience to benefit your remaining study and future career.
And if you want to go overseas again with your degree, we can help with that too!
