Frequently asked questions

Starting midyear often means joining a smaller cohort, so you’ll enjoy more one‑on‑one support, closer connections and easier access to study spaces and services.

It’s also a flexible option – take advantage of the momentum to graduate sooner or adjust your study load to suit your schedule. And if you’re switching courses or universities, midyear entry makes for a smooth transition without losing time.

Finally, the sooner you start studying, the sooner you’ll gain access to our industry connections to build real‑world experience that takes you places.

Swinburne offers alternative admission routes such as UniLink diplomas, our Foundation Program and Fee-Free UniReady.

How to apply as an international student

Tuition fees vary for local and international students.

  • Local students may study in a government‑subsidised place and pay a student contribution (with HECS‑HELP or VET Student Loans available).

  • International students pay tuition fees up‑front, which differ by course and level.

Most students are required to pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), which helps to improve everyone’s student experience at Swinburne. Some courses – like aviation – have extra costs (e.g., flight training), and other incidental expenses, such as textbooks or equipment, may also apply depending on the course.

To learn more about the costs associated with your preferred course, visit our fees page.

Tuition fees for students

No – there are no fees to submit an application at Swinburne for either local or international students.

Swinburne has a range of scholarships designed to provide opportunity, promote equity and recognise excellence, and they are available for both commencing and current students.

While some are based on academic merit or community service, other scholarships exist to support students from Indigenous backgrounds, students suffering from financial hardship or those who have relocated from regional areas to study.

If you are an international student when you apply, we will automatically consider you for a Swinburne international scholarship.
