Overview
This unit explores sociological theories and research on race, ethnicity and migration. Students examine current debates around migration, refugees, racism and diversity, and compare experiences of these issues in nations around the globe. Students will also have the opportunity to apply sociological theories to personal and family experiences.

Unit learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Critically analyse contemporary debates around migration, race, ethnicity and multiculturalism
- Identify and differentiate between the major theories of migration, race and ethnicity utilised in current debates
- Apply concepts from sociological theories of migration to experiences of migration
- Use sociological theory to analyse racial and ethnic relations and identify formations in Australia and overseas
